Project Vijayak Inaugurates Six Strategic Infrastructure Projects in Ladakh as Part of BRO’s Nationwide Launch
In Ladakh today, six major infrastructure projects constructed by the Border Roads Organisation under Project Vijayak were inaugurated as part of the nationwide dedication of 125 strategic projects by the Hon’ble Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh. The national ceremony was conducted virtually from Leh.
The local inauguration event was held at the newly completed Harka Bahadur Bridge, located on the historic Silk Route at Hardass, an ancient and culturally significant trade route that linked Ladakh with Central Asia. The bridge was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohammad Jaffar Akhone, in the presence of Member of Parliament Ladakh Haji Hanifa Jan, Brigadier Rahul Oberoi, Chief Engineer Project Vijayak, senior Army and GREF officers, district officials, and local residents.
Project Vijayak dedicated a total of six strategic infrastructure assets across Ladakh. These include the Harka Bahadur Bridge (90 metres), the Captain Anuj Nayyar, MVC Setu (65 metres) on NH-1D at Shilikchey, the Darchik Bridge (50 metres) and Hanu Lungpa Bridge (35 metres) on the Khaltsi–Batalik–Kargil Road, as well as the upgraded Leh–Chalunka and Kargil–Dumgil Roads. These projects are expected to significantly enhance defence mobility, improve civilian connectivity, and boost socio-economic development in remote border areas.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Ladakh Haji Hanifa Jan said that border infrastructure has undergone a revolutionary transformation since Shri Rajnath Singh assumed charge as Defence Minister. He noted that the new projects not only strengthen the operational readiness of the Armed Forces but also play a key role in the development of local communities and the promotion of border tourism. He congratulated BRO for achieving such a grand and historic milestone.
CEC Dr. Mohammad Jaffar Akhone congratulated BRO and Project Vijayak for their dedicated service. He said he is a great admirer of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari for their unwavering commitment to national infrastructure development.
Dr. Akhone thanked Project Vijayak for working tirelessly to ensure that the Zojila Pass—the lifeline of Ladakh—remains closed for the shortest possible duration each winter, expressing hope for even better connectivity this year. He also congratulated the people of Hardass on the fulfilment of their long-pending demand with the completion of the Harka Bahadur Bridge.
Dr. Akhone added that the people of Kargil share a close bond like one family with Indian Army and continue to work collectively for the peace, progress, and prosperity of the region.
With the dedication of these six projects, Project Vijayak has further strengthened its role in supporting national security while contributing to the overall development of Ladakh.
