It looks like we are making dry hay, alfalfa, to be precise! This haying saga has been six days in the making. Alfalfa is extremely difficult to make in dry form, especially at the end of August and in large round bales. Today, we head out to the hay fields again, realizing that no matter what, the hay must be baled before a rain storm reaches us this evening. We are hoping that upon testing the bales, the moisture count on the counter shows 17% or less. This would mean that our sheep will have some beautiful hay to eat this winter. Creating the best feed for our sheep is an important part of our sheep farming operation. We bring our Border Collies with us to check on the hay and then to check on our soybeans. These will also be a part of our grain ration this winter on our sheep farm.
