Whether the math is "old" or "new" one thing remains the same, we all want to teach the way we were taught. It’s familiar. It’s the “easy way.” Well, it doesn’t have to be the easy/old way or the complex/new way- they are the same. It’s the way we get there that’s different. In this talk Terri Teal Bucci helps the young and the old to see the connections between the old and the new mathematics. Through clear, understandable visuals, and heartwarming stories, you'll learn a new way to think about solving problems mathematical, or otherwise. Terri Teal Bucci holds a BA from Michigan State University, an MA in Mathematics, an MA in Mathematics Education, and a PhD in Mathematics Education from the Ohio State University. She taught mathematics for 14 years in grades 6-12 and another 19 years at Ohio State University, teaching teachers of mathematics. She is the co-Director of the Ohio State Math Literacy Initiative, Director of the Ohio State Haiti Empowerment Project, and Coordinator of the Education Department at Ohio State Mansfield. Dr. Bucci is passionate about sharing ideas on the transformation of the culture of teaching mathematics. She has been working on K-16 applications of the Principles of Bob Moses’ Algebra Project in Ohio for the past six years.
