Slow start to my local storm season. The 31st October 2025 at last saw something to chase that was not a 10 hour drive away. Initial thunderstorms formed on the sea breeze convergence over the eastern southern Highlands. These thunderstorms were largely non-severe, but had small hail and quite small but dark and low base areas, they also slowly back built westward. A mid-level line of weaker convection in the meantime took shape much further west and moved east. When this line merged into the westward back building storms it tipped the balance to seveere with small 1-2cm hail, strong winds and torrential rain.
