I Thought These Budget Watercolors Would Be Fine… Until I Tried to Layer Them

Why are these watercolor paints so hard to layer?
In this video, I test an affordable set of watercolors to see how they handle glazing, layering, and building depth.

If you’ve ever had paint lift, go muddy, or fight you while you work, this will be helpful.

I’ll swatch the colors, mix a few dark mixtures to see how the pigments blend, and then paint a pear to see how they handle layering and building depth.

If you’re learning watercolor and trying to choose paints that won’t break the bank, this will give you a clear sense of what these paints can do and where you may run into limitations.

I always like to show paints in an actual painting, because that’s where you really notice how they behave.
