Want to improve at Grimdark Miniature Painting? STOP Overusing Grimdark Effects

Here's the hard truth. Grimdark is not just muddy textures and muted colors. The base coloring aspect in the Grimdark style is too often ignored and slept on these days!
Enamels and oils are exceptional products that contribute immensely to the style - thanks to their finish, versatility, and the way we can use them with the reductive technique. But this doesn't mean every single feature on every single model should be a flat base coat and an enamel wash.
That's a valid and solid way of painting - but it's BASIC! Not always the answer or equivalent of Grimdark.
