Unity Was A False Prophet | Superman: The Animated Series

Unity is the extraterrestrial threat from one of the strangest episodes of Superman: The Animated Series, Smallville falls under the sway of a charismatic preacher and his promise of divine unity. But behind the sermons lies a parasitic creature that wants to take control.

Most of Superman’s villains use science, weapons, or intellect to challenge him. But Unity is different. It conquers through faith, twisting belief into obedience and devotion into domination.

In this video, I’ll talk about how Unity turns religion into horror, how it draws inspiration from The Adventures of Superman Annual 1: The Union, and how its story contrasts Superman’s compassion with authoritarian control.
