National Inventors Hall of Fame® Inductee Kumar Patel invented the carbon dioxide laser, or CO2 laser. Ushering in a great variety of high-power laser applications, Patel developed the CO2 laser at AT&T Bell Labs in the 1960s. One of the world’s most versatile, efficient and widely used lasers, it has enabled many advances in scientific, medical, industrial, environmental and communications fields. Today, uses for the groundbreaking CO2 laser continue to expand. Watch as Patel discusses his work, his impact, and his lifelong drive to solve problems.
