The Volantex RC Phoenix S glider has a 1600mm wingspan and runs on a 2S 1500mAh LiPo giving plenty of flight time. It is not a powerhouse but it is a stable flyer even in windy conditions.
Flight Review:
A very slight south easterly wind made soaring tricky from the start. A hand launch from the stairs was enough to get the Phoenix S flying and tracking along the coastline, cruising smoothly despite the conditions.
The views were the highlight of the flight. Ocean and waves below with rolling sand dunes alongside, which would have been perfect lift generators if I was positioned a bit better.
Mid flight there were a couple of unscheduled arrivals onto the sand. Lack of momentum and misjudging depth caught me out, but each time it was straight back into the air with a quick hand launch.
The final landing was basically a crash, but I managed to level it just enough to save the fuselage. The GoPro was driven straight across the sand, but no damage done. The plane lives on and will fly again.
