Joan Heimbecker Memorial Video

On March 30th, 1994. Joan Heimbecker, a graduate student in the department of Kinesiology at McMaster University, had her life abruptly taken from her. While in her residence room, she was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend.

Joan's personal and academic achievements touched the lives of her peers and her educators. McMaster Kinesiology felt the devastation of her murder and decided to honour her memory with the Heimbecker Cup: an annual charity hockey game which raises funds for the Joan Heimbecker Scholarship and Bursary, as well as a donation to a women's shelter in Hamilton.

Twenty years following her murder, in anticipation of the Heimbecker Cup, the Kinesiology Graduate Body interviewed those whose lives Joan touched in her time at McMaster.
