Footage from two awesome days spent at Thorpe Park Resort in early September.
Not much has changed in the last year (or several years rather) but there was more than enough to keep us busy. With minimal queues (that kept being over exaggerated for some reason) there was time for plenty of re-rides and even some night rides with our last day falling on an 8pm Friday finish as part of Oktoberfest.
In terms of the coasters, The Swarm had always been my favourite at Thorpe, but after a few front row rides on Stealth, I think I may have been converted. There wasn’t much in it though and they are both still great to ride. Nemesis Inferno was good, albeit not as good as Nemesis at Towers (something which causes arguments between us) and Colossus was Colossus (we only did it once). Saw was also good, although as the day goes on it seems to get rougher so it’s definitely a good idea to hit it up early on.
With all the back end fairs, particularly Nottingham and Hull, being cancelled this year, it was good to have numerous rides on Samurai, which, for me, is easily the best flat ride at a theme park in the country. It’s not quite at the level of Xtreme but the closest we’re going to get this year unfortunately.
Even though they are both ran by Merlin, I much prefer Thorpe to Towers. The park just seems friendlier and the operations are a lot better. You’d only really notice that Thorpe was owned by Merlin if you happened to look at the SBNO Slammer, Loggers Leap and that area of the park that is crying out for investment.
It wasn’t quite the stunning looks of PortAventura we’d planned for but it was still the best trip we’ve had this year.
