Guided Exercises to the Rubank Elementary Method for Saxophone
Hello and welcome to Dr. Nick Stow’s Music Studio for another installation of the Guided Exercises series.
The Rubank Method has been a staple of elementary music instruction for nearly a century. There is a Rubank book for each instrument – I use them for my saxophone, clarinet, and flute students. Each book has a variety of exercises and songs to help students learn to read music and work out technical challenges on their instrument. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many students are forced to take lessons online, which can be a good alternative. However, online lessons present a problem: the teacher and student cannot play together.
This video is designed to help students play duet 9.3 "Blue Bells of Scotland" while listening to the other part. The goal is to give students the chance to play with other musicians, even from the privacy of their own home. Let’s get started, are you ready?
