A nasty legal battle ensued after Barry Bonds hit his record setting 73rd Home Run into the stands at Pac Bell ballpark in San Francisco on the final day of the 2001 season. This video of the Oct 7th 2001 bleacher seat melee was actually used as evidence in the law suit over custody of the ball and who rightfully had claim to it. The case of custody ensued between Alex Popov versus Patrick Hayashi, pitted two fans locked in a lawsuit over ownership of the ball. The men were determined to head to trial and eventually in December 2002 the judge ordered Popov and Hayashi to sell the baseball and split proceeds. Bonds entered the record books for breaking the MLBs single season home run record in 2001, and the ball sold at a court ordered auction for $450,000 in late June 2003.
