Proverbs in English with Meaning for Competitive Exam / 100 Most Important Proverbs


In this video I have endeavoured to provide a good lot of English Proverbs with their Bengali meanings and the easiest trick to memorise them.

A proverb (from Latin: proverbium) is a simple, concrete, traditional saying that expresses a perceived truth based on common sense or experience. Proverbs are often metaphorical and use formulaic language. Collectively, they form a genre of folklore.

Some proverbs exist in more than one language because people borrow them from languages and cultures with which they are in contact.

You can use the following tips and tricks to memorize idioms easily:

• Tip 1:
Do not limit yourself to meanings alone, understand contexts: Try and understand in what context a particular proverb has been used.

• Tip 2:
Keep a handy list for revising what you have learnt: You can simply note down the proverbs and their meanings in a notepad app on your smart-phone and revise it on the go.

• Tip 3:
Never try and learn too many proverbs at the same time.

• Tip 4.
Relate proverbs to visual imagery: Try and relate proverbs to images and link them to stories as it is done here.

• Tip 5.
Try to explore the origin of proverbs. Most of them have very interesting origin stories.
