France by bike - Roscoff to Chinon

In the summer of 2016 four of us cycled from the Breton port of Roscoff to Chinon in the Loire Valley over a couple of leisurely weeks. Initially we followed the Velodyssee EV1 route from Roscoff, picking up the Nantes Brest canal near Carhaix Plougeur, cycling along its banks as far as Nantes. After a rest day in the city we continued for 4 days through vineyards and sunflower fields along the Loire as far as the old fortress town of Chinon.
France is the perfect country in which to take a long distance bike ride. Cycling is in the culture and we received a lot of respect from motorists on the blissfully few road sections of our route. The campsites were fantastic and very reasonably priced, and the trip was fuelled by many a four course lunch menu with wine. We will be back for more!
