Have you ever wondered how the Squam Lakes came to be? Have they always been here? Looking out across the lake from West Rattlesnake feels a little different once you understand the incredible natural forces that contributed to the creation of this landscape. Thousands of years ago, New England was covered by the Laurentide Ice Sheet- a massive continental glacier that was a mile thick in some areas. This glacier carved the earth, gouging out basins that would later become our lakes.
Join LRCC member Grace to learn about glacial lake formation and complete an activity that will help you visualize glacial movement!
