How Ancient Mali Shaped Modern Laws : The Mandé Charter Explained

The Magna Carta is often heralded as the foundation of modern democracy, embodying principles that would eventually shape notions of constitutional law and individual liberties in Western societies.
In contrast, the Mande Charter, or the Kouroukan Fouga, crafted in the expansive plains of the Mali Empire under the leadership of Sundiata Keita, also in the early 13th century, serves as a testament to a different kind of legislative history.
