People actually have quite a lot of trouble cutting straight lines. They’re unforgiving, not like curves! I’m going to take you through cutting straight lines with a ruler first and freehand second.
You could try both cutting techniques and see which suits you best.
✅ Would you like to cut perfect inside curves every time? Then you might be interested in my free fully illustrated eBook called 'Cutting Perfect Curves'. Here's the link to get it now:

**Toyo Comfort Grip Supercutter **
The cutters I use all the time are made by Toyo. I personally prefer the pencil grip – called the Comfort Grip Supercutter – but others love the pistol grip – called a Pistol Grip SuperCutter. It’s all a matter of preference.
🔸It’s lighter and more comfortable than others I’ve tried and cuts down on cramp
🔸Lasts for ages, with a replaceable head. I’ve had mine for years
🔸It has an ingenious pressure system for dispensing oil, which also enables you to gauge how much pressure you need to score a piece of glass
🔸Very good for general purpose and frequent use

**Toyo Cutter with TC-17 Cutter Head**
I have a Professional Super Cutter Toyo cutter with a TC-20 cutter head which I find great for cutting large sheets. They seem a bit tricky to get hold of these days so I suggest the Toyo Supercutter Metal Handle Straight Head Oil Cutter with a TC-17 cutter head instead.
Both cutters have a wide 140-degree head specifically made for straight-line cutting.

**Stained Glass Cut Running Pliers**
Running Pliers are indispensable, an absolute must for making stained glass. These pliers are to help you ‘run the score’. They are used to apply pressure to either side of the scoreline. This makes the fissure open all along the score (running) and breaks the glass apart. They have an ingeniously shaped curved cushioned jaw that puts pressure on either side of the score to break the glass apart.
There are two types of running pliers – metal and plastic. I recommend getting a metal pair.
🔸The metal ones are far more robust and have plastic coated jaws to prevent chipping.
🔸They also have a thumb screw adjustment to enable you to control the amount of pressure applied to the score and to accommodate thicker glass.
You can get a nice pair of metal cut running pliers at Amazon Here:
