Hello everyone and welcome back to Old Dad's Modeling Mess. In todays video I bring you another Tutorial video. How to make a stone fence or wall from foam board. I am using my hot wire cutter but you can use a hobby knife if it is one of those retractable ones. I have things already marked out so I can make the cuts quickly.
Once I have the fence section cut out the next step is to draw on the stones. I am using a regular ball point pen for this because for me it works the best. Now that we have the stones drawn out on one side we will mark the edges of the foam and copy the pattern on the other side. This isn't as hard as you think and they don't have to be perfect, remember this is a stone fence so some difference is preferred.
Now that we have the other side done we make sure to get the edges. I use my hobby knife to score along the lines that we drew onto the foam board making sure we don't go to deep. I like to score in 1 direction at a time and then score the other direction. Once we get that done we score both sides and the edges. Again make sure not to cut to deep because next we will add the mortar lines. This is done by using the pen I used to draw the stones to begin with. This works the best for me but feel free to use whatever method works best for you. Take your pen and follow the lines you just scored and go around each stone. This rounds the corners of the stone and gives you that mortar joint line to separate the stones.
Now that we have that done the last thing we need to do to make our stone fence look more realistic is to ad texture. I like to use a balled up piece of foil for this but you can use what you like. I press it onto the foam firmly because I want a lot of texture but you adjust this part to your liking and to fit your theme. Once I get the texturing done I give the foam a few minutes to relax. The foam will spring back some so you may have to give it another go with to ball of foil. Make sure you get both sides and all of the edges, this allows you to use it in any direction that you want. Now all that is left is to prime and paint your new stone fence or wall.
