The situation on the Dnipropetrovsk front has been relatively stabilized, while Russian forces in the Sumy region are attempting to exploit worsening weather conditions, a Ukrainian servicemember said.
Stanislav Bunyatov, a Ukrainian soldier who writes under the callsign Osman and runs the Telegram channel Govoryt Snaiper, said most of the stabilization on the Dnipropetrovsk axis was achieved after Russian forces redeployed a significant portion of their reserves toward the Huliaipole direction. “On the Dnipropetrovsk direction, the situation has been more or less stabilized due to the withdrawal of most enemy reserves to the Huliaipole direction,” Bunyatov said.
He added that small Russian assault groups continue to advance daily along the entire line of contact. While most of these troops are being eliminated by Ukrainian forces, some manage to survive and withdraw.
Ukrainian forces liberated the village of Tykhe in the Dnipropetrovsk region after driving out Russian troops, Dec. 5.
It was reported on Dec. 9 that two servicemembers from Ukraine’s 67th Separate Mechanized Brigade captured six Russian soldiers a day earlier in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The prisoners were taken during strike-and-search operations on the Oleksandrivka direction. The brigade said that despite constant Russian attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses, its troops are holding the line and continuing to advance, gradually liberating Ukrainian territory.
After a successful clearing operation on the northern bank of the river, Ukrainian forces are starting their next operation to push forward. Despite the Russians anticipating such a move, the Ukrainian command is spearheading the assault using marines and tanks to penetrate the Russian flank deeper, RFU News media outlet says.
İt is noted that Ukraine’s main objective in this sector is to advance into the Russian-held area and create a credible threat on the flank of the Russian offensive directed toward Novopavlivka. The Ukrainians need to escalate pressure in this sector to further erode the Russian effort exactly when the Russian assault has stalled, and Ukrainian units have the chance to turn the tide. In doing so, the Ukrainian command seeks not only to interrupt the tempo of the Russian advance but also to force Russian commanders to reallocate personnel and resources to secure their vulnerable flank, consequently undermining their broader operational posture. The main Ukrainian advantage is that now they have full control over Ivanivka, which facilitates the creation of a staging ground for further operations, RFU News says. As the settlement is secured, Ukrainian forces can use it as a crossing point over the Vovcha River and start attacking to the east, conducting disruptive operations against enemy troops and infiltrating their forward positions. Bad weather conditions, such as fog, would also help them get behind enemy lines, as the Russian reconnaissance drones wouldn’t be able to spot them. Ukrainian counteroffensive efforts appear to be building on the momentum generated by the liberation of Ivanivka, applying sustained pressure on the exposed Russian flank and complicating further Russian attempts to advance toward Novopavlivka.
