This video depicts a southbound hike of the Sheltowee Trace, a recreational trail that traverses over 300 miles of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky and Tennessee. The section depicted here is approximately 47 miles long, beginning at the Van Hook Falls trailhead and ending at the Alum Ford campground. This section goes past Holly Bay Marina, Laurel Dam, Cumberland Falls, Yahoo Geological Area, and many creeks, campsites, bridges, and other interesting landmarks. Visiting Yahoo Falls, Yahoo Arch and Marker's Arch will add about 3 miles to your hike.
This is part 8 of a multi-part series that will encompass the entire length of the trail, which travels through the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, Natural Bridge State Resort Park, Cave Run Lake, Laurel River Lake, and the Red River Gorge, in additional to the Daniel Boone Forest, for which it is considered the "backbone."
Hiking in Kentucky has serious risks and are not limited to dehydration, animal attacks, serious falls, exhaustion, hypothermia, etc. Getting lost will obviously exacerbate these risks, so always bring a compass and map... and of course watch and subscribe to our videos.
