In the third episode of A Day in Shenzhen, we meet He Junru, a woman born in the 1980s and a native Hakka who grew up in Shenzhen. Formerly an outbound tour guide, she has traveled to over 20 countries and has always had a passion for exploring secondhand bookstores around the world. In July 2022, she opened a unique bookstore specializing in ancient texts and secondhand books in an urban village in Henggang, which quickly drew attention from Shenzhen's cultural media.
What inspired her to open a bookstore? How is her bookstore doing now? In this episode, we step into a day in He Junru's life as a bookstore owner.
