I go over how to modify an existing preset to make it more expressive with a MIDI wind controller like the Akai EWI or the Yamaha WX5
There are two key things on the MoPho to set up. This goes for any analog synth, by the way. You want to set the BREATH setting on the MoPho to VCA Level at a value of 127. This means you get a full dynamic range from the wind controller. Some patches this may not do what you want, but you'll have to go on a patch by patch basis. On the Mod Editor program this is under Controls called "Breath Destination". This should be the first thing you change on any patch. My first suggestion is to just do that to a bunch of the stock patches and see what you get.
Additionally on the MoPho you can assign Breath (CC1 I think?) to any number of other parameters in the Modulators box. Set the Mod Source as Breath and the Destination as something else. Often the Filter is a good palce for this, but also maybe the oscilator mix, or one of the LFO amounts, or whatever else that you find that makes a patch expressive. You'll find your own by just reading more about analog synthesis and making patches.
I found it helpful to run a MIDI patch box into the Mopho so I could edit a patch and test it on the fly, since the computer editor changes the patches in real time on the unit.
Finally, there is a BUG! in the MoPho firmware. I don't think they ever released this publically, but I created a big enough stir on their own support forums (threatened to sell my MoPho and buy a competing brand synth!) that I got a fixed version of the firmware for something that only effects how the MoPho interprets breath destination amounts that ramp from 0-127 with no intermediate number. Technical yadda yadda, use this firmware I attached or you'll be upset when you make strong attacks with your air.
