In case you're wondering I wasn't aiming Shy Guy Squad and Goomba Storm at Fawful (that would be waste of SP), I was aiming at the Vacuum Helmet so I could break it with Mario and Luigi before it could flee prolonging this battle even more.
This fight can be really challenging if you don't know how to deal properly with Fawful's attacks, especially the one where you have to sic Goombas at him. By the way that attack can deal a VERY large amount of damage bordering on instant kill if you haven't built your DEF and HP.

About Challenge Medal:
Challenge Medal accessory is an accessory that gives a 50% increase for HP, DEF, SPEED and Coins earned, and a 150% increase for POW.
The earliest you can get it is after beating Cholesteroad's Green Shell challenge as soon as you defeat Scutlet and restore Bowser's flames.
In short: it is the "Hard Mode with perks" for this game.
