The Post-Disruption Distribution System Operation and Restoration Strategy, developed by ICC as part of the C3PO framework in the Horizon Europe R²D² project, provides a resilience-enhancing methodology for distribution systems facing catastrophic events such as extreme weather-induced outages.
The tool integrates flexible microgrid formation and real-time scheduling with a dynamic restoration strategy that coordinates repair crew dispatch and cold load pickup. By combining these functionalities, it helps maintain power supply to critical loads, reduce service interruption costs, and accelerate recovery.
Key features include:
Two-stage microgrid formation and scheduling, ensuring robust operation under uncertainty.
Event-driven repair crew dispatch using predictive control for faster restoration.
Frequency-constrained cold load pickup, addressing challenges of inverter-based resources during re-energization.
This integrated solution supports DSOs in restoring normal operations efficiently while improving resilience against high-impact, low-frequency events.
C3PO (Multi-risk Assessment Framework for Power Systems) is a product of the Horizon Europe R²D² project, offering a unified approach to strengthen the cybersecurity and physical resilience of Electrical Power and Energy Systems (EPES).
