First shot this car at an Uncle Sam's event at Byron Dragway in July of '19 and wasn't aware of it's history till now. Originally the car was built by Bill Greenwood and his father after acquiring it from the original owner who had wrecked it in the mid '60s. Bill who was a painter and his father a bodyman by trade repaired the car back to factory specs. They drove and enjoyed the car awhile until deciding to take it apart for some upgrades. Starting with a crate SBC 327ci engine punched out to a 365ci with a GMC blower,Buick/Pontiac/Olds rear end, Grumpy straight axle, with a tilt front end built Bill's father and a machinist friend. The pair did 90-95% of the work on the car. Bill who's nickname is “Tree” is engraved in the idler on the blower. In the '70s the car was sold to Bob Raines who took it to the next level. Gary Colle Sr bought the car in Maryland in '77 and took it to New Jersey, then to San Diego Ca. Eventually the car was traded for a sport fish boat and it went to Arizona. All this information came from Bill Greenwood's son who had commented on a video clarifying some of the information that was being posted. That brings us up to Tony Zompetta of Chicago who owned it in '19 and recently sold it to Rod Saboury of Manchester Maryland.
Rod who just doesn't have the time to campaign or travel to the shows has decided to sell this one time 1976-77 ISCA Grand Champion. Built by MD resident Bob Raines who spent over $25000 in the early 70's in chrome plating alone which would equate to at least $200k now. It took top honors at the Dead Man's Curve show last year in NJ. out of thousands of cars. The award was even presented by the founder of the ISCA Bob Larivee. Rod has only driven a couple miles but it's a blast to drive and sounds nasty. This car would certainly cost hundreds of thousands now but it's history, accomplishments and notoriety could never be duplicated. Currently accepting offers on this one of a kind piece of show car history. Give Rod a call at 443-744-2411 if your serious about owning this iconic corvette. #corvette #nostalgia #vintage
