Modo was used to create backgrounds, environments, and props for the Department of Homeland Security’s latest campaign series of educational animated videos. Blue Campaign is a national public awareness initiative in the US, designed to educate people on the indicators of human trafficking. Jesse and April Brady, owners and primary creatives at animation production studio VEC Workshop, blocked out every camera and character for the animations within Modo.
Join Jesse live on YouTube where he’ll walk us through the creation and organization of the 3D scenes, and how they used the After Effects IO script in Modo to import all of the footage and location data. He’ll also explain the seamless process of dropping 2D characters and graphics in place using anchors imported from Modo Locators. Jesse and April combined the advantages of advanced 2D character rigs, and 3D backgrounds to craft a unique look, achieving high production values while delivering an important message.
Bios:
Jesse and April Brady are the two owners and primary creatives at VEC Workshop. After receiving a bachelors degree in Studio Art, Jesse started work as a production designer at the Jo-Ann Fabrics headquarters in Cleveland, before moving to Pensacola to help establish an animation production branch at Abeka. Using a blend of illustration, 3D, and motion graphics skills, he worked as a generalist, creating animated educational content. He also illustrates the Trapped in a Video Game book series, along with several other books.
April completed her Studio Art degree at PCC in 2008, and her Master of Fine Arts degree in 2011. She became a lead illustrator at Abeka, creating styles for a broad range of elementary books. She developed and taught college level digital painting courses for both graduates and undergrads. Her personal freelance projects include work for the National Bible Bee, and a variety of children's books, including the Leila and Nugget Mysteries series.
Both eventually formed VEC Workshop, an animation production studio where Jesse works as the principal animator and project manager, and April works as the Art Director. VEC has had the privilege of working with clients, like the Department of Homeland Security's Blue Campaign, and the National Naval Aviation Museum among many others. Some of their most notable work so far has been for a seven-part, animated series created to bring awareness to the problem of Human Trafficking in the United States.
