Spandau, is in the West of Berlin, outside of the main 'tourist' area, and is an easy short commuter ride on the S-Bahn into the main city centre area. The Ibis Hotel is located a 2 minute walk from Spandau's railway station, giving good transport connections within Berlin on the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Regional Trains, and nationally on Intercity and ICE services.

I had booked this hotel in December 2019, BEFORE the Coronavirus and Covid-19 were declared a global pandemic, and when there was still a degree of normality to daily life. My intention was to visit Berlin for the Lollapalooza 2020 music festival, where I was going to see Rage Against The Machine. The Festival was being held nearby at the Olympic Stadium, so as you can imagine, at the time of booking, hotel rooms were scarce as there was a great demand for rooms due to the festival, consequently I ended up paying a high price for the room, which was 278 Euro for two nights on a room only basis. I would never normally pay so much for an Ibis Hotel, but I had my ticket for Lollapolooza and needed to ensure that I had somewhere to stay that was close to where the festival was taking place.

My room (811), was high up in the tower with a good view over Spandau and the railway station, it was a standard Ibis room, they are fairly identikit, so there were no real surprises. It had a decent king-sized bed, open wardrobe, desk area, chair and air-conditioning. It was cleaned and disinfected upon my arrival and very comfortable. The bathroom was the standard Ibis pre-fabricated bathroom unit, like you get in most Ibis hotels. It had a walk in shower and was clean and served it's purpose adequately.

The hotel was very quiet, I only encountered a handful of other guests. Face mask wearing was compulsory in all areas apart from my room and also if eating or drinking in the ground-floor breakfast area / bar (which I didn't use).

All in all, his was a fine budget hotel, the room was comfortable, the staff were great, location wise it was perfect for the railway station, I enjoyed my stay here and I would return, but I wouldn't pay such a high price in future.
