Butler County Sheriff’s Lifesaving Awards

The Butler County sheriffs office presented life-saving awards at the Butler County Board of commissioners meeting on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

Miss Butler County Grace Ish was on hand to help recognize the recipients: Detective Daniel Bogle, Deputy Scott McMurphy and Deputy Ashley Johnson.

On Monday, August 11th, 2025, deputy Daniel Bogle. Now Detective Bogle responded to a medical emergency at a residence. Detective Bogle located the patient lying on the bathroom floor while the patient's father was administering CPR Rec.
Recognizing the critical nature of the situation, deputy Bogle immediately assumed life-saving duties and took over performing CPR. While continuing resuscitative efforts, he administered two consecutive doses of Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan. In an effort to reverse what he suspected as a drug overdose. As Butler County EMS personnel ok over advanced life-saving measures and through the combined efforts of all responders and do in large part, to Detective Bogle's rapid intervention, the individual had successfully revived and transported the hospital with a triage of code RED over critical condition, but alive. Detective Bogle's, decisive actions, skillful CPR and timely administration of Narcan were directly responsible for saving and sustaining a human life for ex, for his exemplary conduct, and for being directly responsible for the preservation of human life.

On Tuesday, August 12th, 2025, deputy Scott McMurphy, who is actually assigned to the civil process and warrants section, overheard a radio call for a medical emergency at a residence. Deputy McMurphy recognized the situation as a probable opioid overdose, quickly administered a dose of Naloxone, knows Narcan, and immediately began performing CPR. Soon after the patient developed weak respirations and a pulse. When Butler County EMS personnel responded, the patient was triaged code red, critical life threatening condition. Paramedics took over advanced life saving measures and through the combined efforts of all responders and do in large part, to Deputy McMurphy's rapid intervention, the patient was successfully revived and transported the hospital in critical condition, but alive. Deputy McMurphy's, decisive actions, skillful CPR and timely administration of Narcan were directly responsible for saving this patient's life for his actions.

On Sunday, November 30th, 2025, at around 1130, P.M. Deputy Ashley Johnson responded to an address. It was reported that the patient was bleeding profusely from a laceration to a major artery in her thigh being the first to arrive. Deputy Johnson located the patient, a woman in her sixties on the floor with excessive blood loss. A family member had applied a belt as a partially effective tourniquet and was applying pressure as best he could with a towel. Deputy Johnson, upon her arrival, calmly took over and applied her, issued tourniquet above the injury, continued to provide pressure to the wound by hand, and successfully stopped the bleeding until EMS arrived, arrived to take over. It was discovered that the woman had been using a razor-style knife while crafting. When she accidentally dropped it, her instinct was to try to prevent the knife from hitting the floor, and she closed her legs together in attempt to catch it, causing the blade to puncture a major artery in her leg. The patient was transported to a Wichita area Hospital by EMS code red or critical condition. Without the direct medical intervention of Deputy Johnson in her ability to tourniquet the bleeding, the continued blood loss would've been fatal. Deputy Johnson's decisive actions, calm and skillful application of her tourniquet. In her continued effort to stabilize the patient, were directly responsible for saving and sustaining the human life for her exemplary conduct, and being directly responsible for the preservation of human life.
