Validation of susceptibility metrics - Short talk
Rahul Gaurav - Abnormal iron concentration in PD patients in the posteroventral nigral region and not in any other basal ganglia region over time
Biography: Paris Brain Institute (ICM), Sorbonne University, France
Abstract: Although Parkinson’s disease (PD) demonstrates substantia nigra (SN) iron overload, regional changes are poorly understood. Subjects were assessed 3 times 2 years apart. Mean quantitative susceptibility mapping template was developed. Iron was quantified in SN, its subdivisions, subthalamic nucleus, caudate nucleus, putamen, globus pallidus and thalamus. PD without REM sleep behavior disorder showed 17.8% and during the follow up, 26.2% posteroventral SN iron overload with respect to controls.
