An Invitation to a Sacred Pause

At the Fetzer Institute, we observe an annual practice known as a Sacred Pause. As each calendar year comes to a close, we welcome this period of rest, inner reflection, and spiritual alignment.
As Octavia Raheem of Devoted to Rest, so powerfully explains, revelations arrive – and we are primed to receive them – when we rest. “The pause is a place of power,” she says. “Go there often.”
You will not hear from Fetzer on social media or any official channel until the New Year, as our offices will be closed.
We do this with purpose and intention: our community is pausing, together and individually, as we move through the reflective and transitional energy that bridges the end of one year with a new beginning.
We invite you to join us in this Sacred Pause, however that looks for you. Perhaps it means spending less time on social media and more time in the present. Perhaps it means taking the time to listen more deeply to yourself or your surroundings, or opening your heart to those who need extra care.
Tricia Hersey said in Rest Is Resistance: A Manifesto that rest is our birthright; it is a primal need. May we all release any shame we carry for this ancient act.
Enjoy this short meditation from Shakiyla Smith-Sengu, Vice President of Organizational Culture at Fetzer. We hope this inspires your own venture into a Sacred Pause.
