I was one of the 40 international photographers for the 7 Days in Myanmar book project.

A week in Myanmar was a new experience for me. The country is free from plastic bags pollution, the rivers are relatively clean, the people are friendly and they are not holding a phone all the time. It is a bit like Indonesia 40 years ago. Unfortunately, all this is going to change rapidly when the country will open itself to the world for the best or the worst ....
I was assigned to the Irrawaddy Delta to photograph the wildlife and the people there. This area is very remote and dry. The tall trees have been destroyed by one of the biggest typhoon of all time in May 2008, killing more than 138.000 people. There is a lot of poverty and life is hard in an environment where fresh water is limited, especially during the dry season.
The animals there cannot be seen easily and I had to spend days on a boat in search of crocodiles, birds and hoping to see some of the last fresh water dolphins, the Irrawaddy dolphin. I saw only one.
I hope I will come back to Myanmar one day, visit the northern regions where there are still tigers, bears and elephants.
