Everyone who knows me knows that I like cats. I wrote this song as a tribute to my cat, Aisha. I found her hanging out in my apartment parking lot in 1988 and she was my best friend for 14 years.
I came up with the song about 10 years ago. Around that time, I discovered Jerry Reed and loved the unique country/jazz instrumentals he played on his nylon string guitar. So, I bought one, started learning fingerstyle guitar and before long, this song was born.
The turnaround at the beginning is very cool. It features ascending and descending scales played simultaneously in harmony. In the intro, I play it alone on my nylon string. But when it repeats, I augment it with my electric guitar, and you can hear the lines more distinctly. The arrangement also features lap steel and electric guitar solos.
