Exploring physical modeling synthesis using Bessel functions in Max/MSP. This patch is a Gen~ translation of Ersatz_Ben's original Bessel functions experiment, inspired by Phlip Meyer.
In this video I demonstrate the patch with various exciters, including a piezo pickup attached to a piece of wood for real-world acoustic input.
Bessel functions are mathematical solutions that describe vibrations in circular membranes — like drumheads or cymbals. They're essential for physically accurate modeling of how sound radiates across a surface, capturing the complex overtone patterns that make percussion instruments sound realistic.
