David Dawson and Oliver Kent discuss the remarkable collection of pottery discovered during excavations at Wells & Mendip Museum in the 1990s.
These ceramics help tell the story of life in 18th Century Wells in Somerset. The webinar accompanies a major exhibition of pottery which can be seen at the Museum from 16th February until 11th of April 2024.

The ‘Smashed in the Cellar’ project was funded by the Arts Council, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Wells and Mendip Museum.
The exhibition was realised by Vicky Dawson (project lead), Richard and Helena Jaeshke (conservators), Helen Astill (design) and Duncan Cameron (artist in residence) in conjunction with:- Research by David Dawson, Teresa Hall, Linda Iveson and Oliver Kent based on fieldwork carried out by the Wells Natural History and Archaeological Society under the direction of Simon Almy and Christopher Hawkes.
