I document my latest Logs to Lamps project where I transform a dead Manzanita log I found in the wild into a unique, rustic lamp.
The process kicks off with me harvesting and prepping the Manzanita. It was a demanding task, but I ended up with one perfect log that had a unique side branch, or "spout," which I knew immediately I wanted to use for the light source. After sanding the log to bring out its natural color and grain, I show the complex process of drilling connected channels all the way through the log to run the electrical wiring.
Next, I took apart an old lamp to salvage the metal base, socket, and internal hardware. Once I mounted the log to the base, I wired all the components, tested the connection to make sure it worked, and then secured everything with wood putty and zip ties to let it cure. I wrap up the video with the final reveal of the fully functional lamp, complete with a rustic lampshade, showcasing a perfect blend of antique hardware and the raw beauty of natural wood.
