In this profound talk, Thupten Jinpa unpacks Nagarjuna’s influential teachings on emptiness, the cornerstone of Madhyamaka philosophy. Jinpa explains how emptiness reveals the interconnected nature of reality, challenging our tendency to grasp at things as independently existing. Through this lens, he explores how clinging to a fixed self fuels emotional reactivity, division, and suffering. Drawing from Nagarjuna, Aryadeva, Chandrakirti, and Tibetan masters like Tsongkhapa, Jinpa highlights how understanding emptiness can liberate us from attachment and open the door to true wisdom.
Thupten Jinpa Langri was educated in the classical Tibetan monastic academia and received the highest academic degree of Geshe Lharam. Jinpa also holds a BA in philosophy and a PhD in religious studies, both from the University of Cambridge, England. Since 1985, he has been the principal translator to the Dalai Lama, accompanying him to the United States, Canada, and Europe.
