Hollow Apologies in Bojack Horseman.

Bojack Horseman, as a show, contains a lot of apologizing, making up, and forgiveness. But there's a stark difference between an apology that is truly meant to make amends and show that someone has changed, and an apology simply to keep people close to you to be able to manipulate them again. This show does an amazing job dressing down what apologies work, and what apologies don't, and WHY that is the case.

I do talk about Bojack a lot in this video, but as I said, try not to pin it all on him. The entire main cast makes a plethora of mistakes and all must apologize at one point in the show, to varying degrees of success.

Ultimately, though, I do think that when someone truly means it, shows they understand what they have done, and resolves to take steps to prevent it from happening again, they do deserve some forgiveness and patience. However, if they make this promise over and over without backing it up, eventually, no one will be left to hear it.
