E-MOTIVE trial, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is evaluating the use of a bundle of treatment to manage post-partum haemorrhage at vaginal births. Every six minutes, post-partum haemorrhage kills a mother somewhere in the world. The E-MOTIVE bundle combines a set of evidence-based interventions to fight this plague. E stands for Early detection of PPH using a blood collection drape for objective quantification of blood loss. MOTIVE stands for uterine Massage, Oxytocic drugs, Tranexamic acid, IV fluids and Examination of the genital tract and Escalation of the woman to the right setting of care. This large trial with an anticipated 300,000 women from 80 health facilities in 5 countries (Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa and Pakistan) will report its findings in 2023.
