Kerry Feirman of "Talk Tennis" and "Talk Sports", and The Schmo, host of "The Schmo and The Pro," hit the grassy knolls of the Morgan Run Resort and Club, to talk to the many celebrities that participated in this year's event!

The Celebrity Championship Tournament brings over 50 of the best celebrity golfers in the world together to participate in a Celeb-Am Tournament and compete in a celebrity-only competition for a cash purse and the coveted Celebrity Championship trophy!

The weekend long competition is a fantastic event for fans of all ages including families, friends and business professionals to network and foster new connections. The 2018 Celebrity Championship includes a two-day Celebrity-Amateur tournament, nightly parties, and a 36-hole, celebrity-only competition.

Since its inception in 1999, the tournament has raised over $2 million on behalf of numerous San Diego based charities. This year, charitable proceeds were once again donated to The Junior Seau Foundation.

Junior Seau, was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Known for his passionate play, he was a 10-time All-Pro, 12-time Pro Bowl selection, and named to the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team. He was elected posthumously to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.

Originally from Oceanside, California, Seau played college football at the University of Southern California (USC). He was chosen by the San Diego Chargers as the fifth overall pick of the 1990 NFL Draft. Seau started for 13 seasons for the Chargers before being traded to the Miami Dolphins where he spent three years, and spent his last four seasons with the New England Patriots.

Seau retired from pro football after the 2009 season. A standout on San Diego's only Super Bowl team, he was later inducted into the Chargers Hall of Fame and the team retired his number 55. Seau committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest in 2012 at the age of 43. Later studies by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) concluded that Seau suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a type of chronic brain damage, that has also been found in other deceased former NFL players and other NFL players who have committed suicide. The disease is believed to derive from repetitive head trauma, and can lead to conditions like dementia, rage and depression.

The Jr Seau Foundation's key goal is to raise funds that will aid in the investigation of the long-term effects from repetitive head impacts sustained during contact sports, military conflicts or other potentially hazardous environments. The Foundation works with the research institutions to develop imaging techniques to correlate pathological changes and abnormalities so that high-tech imaging tools can be used to screen the presence of early CTE.

The foundations core vision is to, increase awareness and education in an effort to detect and treat early stage brain trauma and enrich the lives of individuals who have been affected.
