Sir Philip Craven MBE is the President of the International Paralympic Committee and a wheelchair basketball player with an outstanding athletic career. Gold Medallist at the 1971 and 1974 European Championships and 1973 World Championships, he has participated in five Paralympic Games. President of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation from 1988-2002, Sir Philip joined the IOC in 2002. He is a leading proponent for the expansion of sporting facilities to accommodate those with impairments, and believes that sport goes hand in hand with academia in providing young people with a balanced education and an understanding of the values essential to creating a strong society.
