The Nightmare of Ashihama is one of the most misunderstood bosses in Old School RuneScape. Written off as bad GP or “not worth learning,” Nightmare is actually one of the best group PvM encounters in the game for learning real mechanics — prayer switching, movement, special attacks, add management, and staying calm under pressure.
In this guide, I break down everything you need to know to get started at Nightmare in mass worlds, even if you’re brand new to PvM. We cover gear, inventory, fight flow, prayer switching, and every special attack, explained clearly and simply so you can jump in without getting wrecked.
Nightmare is perfect if you want challenging group PvM without raid requirements, low death costs, and a place to practice skills that transfer directly into raids and harder bosses.
This guide is designed for:
Beginner and midgame players
First-time Nightmare learners
Players looking to improve PvM fundamentals
Anyone intimidated by raids or “sweaty” PvM groups
