Summer sailing season in Hanalei Bay is in full swing and after getting a late start on the season, the Seawing Tri is finally back on the water after receiving lots of changes and improvements during the off-season.
First and foremost the mast was completely stripped and refinished and modified to eliminate the winches that were mounted at the base.
Halyards now run through clutches instead of cam cleats and then route through surface mounted low friction rings on the winch pads that allow the halyards to run out to adjustable cars on the T tracks and through stand up blocks so they can be led back to the cockpit and the cabin top winches.
The Seawing also got new trampolines/wingnets made of Ferrari 392 by SloCanvas & Sails which were laced with 3/16 Samson Amsteel.
New Keder aluminum tracks were added to the backside of the forward beam arms in place of the individual metal hooks that were previously installed so that the nets were well and uniformly supported.
With the main sail now converted to slides instead of bolt rope, and with the old feeder slot filled in and the new smaller lower slide loading slot cut in, the sail can now stack atop the boom, so I purchased a generic boom bag for the time being since the old one didn’t allow for the stack of slides. Eventually I will make a stack pack for the boom now that I can take proper dimensions of the dropped and stacked sail.
There’s a few other things I’ll cover in a future video.
And I will post some sailing videos soon as I finish up the last few tasks before I let the Seawing fly!
