122 people were crushed to death and many were seriously injured in a stampede that broke out after the satsang of Surajpal alias Bhole Baba in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh. Most of the dead are women and children.
According to the post mortem report, the cause of death of most people is suffocation. Some people have also died due to head injury, shock and haemorrhage.
This is not the first incident of death due to stampede in the country. Even before this, thousands of people have lost their lives in stampede incidents.
