A short trip to the airport on a train with STARIS installed.
The C151 train is the oldest rolling stock on the MRT network, introduced along with the opening of the first section in 1987. A total of 66 train sets were built by a Japanese consortium led by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, with Kinki Sharyo, Tokyu Car Corp and Nippon Sharyo as members.
At time of writing, the C151 is still operating on its original GTO Chopper propulsion equipment supplied by Mitsubishi Electric. Replacement equipment is due and is expected to be supplied by Toshiba. All trainsets received their mid-life refurbishment from Hyundai Rotem between 2006-2009.
These trains are operated exclusively by SMRT Trains on East West Line and North South Line.
