My First Kolkata Durga Puja Ever — Mind-Blown by the Festival!

This is my second time in India but my very first time in Kolkata. I only have three days here, so this adventure is a whirlwind. I will take you through the streets of the city to the massive pandals like Santosh Mitra Square and Bagbazar Sarbojanin, meet locals, and taste the food that keeps the crowds moving. From the sound of dhak drums to the glow of diyas, Durga Puja is not just an event, it is an experience.

With millions of people filling the streets, experiencing Durga Puja is not easy. The crowds are overwhelming and the rituals can feel mysterious if you do not know the cultural background. My challenge is to dive into the heart of the celebration, learn on the move, and bring you along as I discover what makes this festival the soul of Bengal.

I chat with street vendors, families, and young kids who teach me small pieces of culture as we walk together. The highlight comes when I witness the ritual that defines the spirit of the festival, a moment where devotion, art, and community collide. Whether it is a powerful immersion procession or the kindness of locals who welcome me into their celebration, this is where the energy of Kolkata during Durga Puja truly takes hold of you.

Durga Puja is more than a festival. It is Kolkata’s heartbeat, a blend of devotion, artistry, food, and culture that turns the entire city into one grand stage. For me, this was a short visit, but what I experienced will stay with me forever. If you ever get the chance, this is a must-see event that shows the beauty of India in its most vibrant form.
