It's time to harvest the onions from the allotment. They have fallen over, which is a good indication that they are finished.
I have had them covered all season, so let's see if they have been affected by onion white rot or allium leaf miner (dodging the bullet here lol).
These onions have been grown from sets and were planted in the autumn of 2024, whereby others in the garden have been grown from seed and bought in as young plants this year.
The UK climate has been very challenging up to now. We are now entering July and we have drought conditions. I have found out that the onions here, don't need my help at all, apart from keeping the weeds at bay and it seems like they dont need water and thrive?! Funnily, I was told to keep onion sets watered through the winter. Let's see how they do next year.
I also watered a plot neighbour's plot while they were away. From heatwave watering, then catching a chest infection and then another heatwave, I was pretty glad they came back laugh.
I have taken in the first batch of the broad beans and another harvest of strawberries. I have also learnt a bit more about supporting large exhibition onions.
Bye for now...
