A twenty minute video of my visit to The Greatest Gathering on Saturday 2 August 2025.
We travelled to the event by special train, organized by UK RailTours, topped and tailed with a Class 57 and a Class 69.
The train journey was okay, apart from the boiler in the buffet car breaking down on the outward trip, which meant there was no hot water, plus the fact that they were serving so many hot meals that the queue was horrendous.
The seats were also not brilliant, being quite cramped and with solid armrests that made getting in and out difficult. They were also not all aligned with a window, at least our airline seats weren't.
Also, I had imagined that the event was going to close at 5 pm but, instead, it finished at 4 pm so I missed out on photographing a few of the locos that I had wanted to see, including Flying Scotsman and Sir Nigel Gresley, as well as the new Class 93 and 99.
My fault entirely for not checking and, maybe, a two day visit would have been better but, then, hindsight is a wonderful thing.
All in all it was a a very good day out and I hope you enjoy watching this video.
