Recently, Supreme Court, the apex court of the Republic of India, has said that the changes that have been made to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 in 2017 by the Modi Government are contradictory to the original act and thus, can't be justified. The Supreme Court has asked the government to further change the law that permits the impounding of animals during the pendency period. According to the apex court, the animals are a source of livelihood and can't be confiscated as ascribed by the law at present.
