"Big Trouble in Little China" (1986) follows Jack Burton (Kurt Russell), a cocky but clueless truck driver who gets caught up in a mystical battle in San Francisco’s Chinatown. When his friend Wang Chi (Dennis Dun)’s fiancée Miao Yin (Suzee Pai) is kidnapped by the Lords of Death, Jack and Wang chase them into the heart of Chinatown, where they stumble upon an ancient war between rival gangs. Their pursuit leads them to Lo Pan (James Hong), an immortal sorcerer cursed to exist as a frail old man. Lo Pan seeks to break his curse by marrying a woman with green eyes, making Miao Yin his target. Alongside activist lawyer Gracie Law (Kim Cattrall), tour guide Eddie Lee (Donald Li), and wise sorcerer Egg Shen (Victor Wong), Jack and Wang infiltrate Lo Pan’s lair, battling his supernatural enforcers, the Three Storms—Thunder (Carter Wong), Rain (Peter Kwong), and Lightning (James Pax)—to save Miao Yin.

As the heroes fight through Lo Pan’s underground fortress, Wang engages in high-flying sword fights while Jack, despite his bravado, often bumbles his way through battles. Lo Pan, intending to marry both Miao Yin and Gracie to lift his curse, is ultimately slain when Jack catches a thrown knife and hurls it back into his forehead. As the lair collapses, Wang kills Rain, while Thunder self-destructs in rage, and Lightning is crushed by falling debris. With the day saved, Wang and Miao Yin reunite, while Gracie hints at a romance with Jack, though he chooses to hit the road instead. As Jack drives his truck, the Pork-Chop Express, into the night, an unseen monster from Lo Pan’s lair stows away on the back, leaving an ominous hint that the adventure isn’t truly over.
